"I'm stuck for words! What can I say to friends and family for my fundraising campaign"
Don't panic! There are often times we struggle to find the right words. So, we thought we'd give you a basic outline to get you started.
A. The Quick and Easy Message
Just copy and paste the message below with your details into social media or email when you ask for support.
I'm Walking One Million Steps for (Charity Name) in 100 days. That's an incredible 500 miles!
Please visit my fundraising page (your fundraising page link) and help me raise (your target) for the incredible work they do.
It's a tough challenge! It's MORE than:
> 18 marathons
> London to Zurich, Switzerland
> Brighton to Inverness, Scotland
> 8,800 times around a football pitch
> 2,000 times around a 400-meter running track
But I'm doing it for an amazing charity and your support will keep me going.
NOTE: Also look at points B. and C. below to add details to the story of your Million Steps journey.
B. People love to hear stories.
You don't need to share screenshots of your stats/steps; your supporters will know about your achievements on your fundraising page.
Tell them the story of YOUR journey with pictures or and importantly, selfies. People are more inclined to look at a message when they see YOU on a journey. Your supporters will cheer you on, find out more about the cause you support, and, if able, help with a donation.
So, it's important to tell your supporters about:
- the things (big and small) that you have done
- a place you visited or a route you travelled (it does not have to be the highest mountain, it could be a unique building, a bed of flowers, a bird, or even a weed!)
- if you had to jog on the spot in your home, bravo! Talk about what it was like to make it a habit
- how you felt celebrating MOVEment
- take a selfie or a short video and share it
Now let's add some details to a sponsorship message
> What have you done?
Explain the place, photograph, thought, quote or emotions you have
> Tell the reader what it felt like
- Was it challenging? Was the weather awful?
- Was it a glorious day? And you are so happy you got out
- Did you notice something you never noticed before or
- What jogging or pacing around the house has taught you?
C. Alternative copy-and-paste template with more detail
